Co-creating digital commons

Our Hackathons bring together members of Boavizta, experts in responsible digital practices, and external contributors to collaborate on projects that assess and reduce the environmental impact of digital technologies. Open to everyone, whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, or simply passionate about aligning digital technology with planetary limits, these events focus on producing tangible outcomes: improving tools, structuring data models, exploring new use cases, or conducting methodological analyses.

Our goal? To accelerate progress by mobilizing the community to create concrete contributions, such as data, use cases, and tool enhancements, in a short, collaborative timeframe.

Why participate?

Hackathons are a unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and connect:

  • Build skills for the future by working on real-world challenges in sustainable IT.

  • Make an impact by advancing open-source projects that shape the future of digital sustainability.

  • Meet like-minded people and grow your network in a collaborative, inclusive environment.

Past Hackathons

With over 10 editions since creation of the Boavizta association, our Hackathons have united a growing community to tackle real-world challenges in sustainable IT. Together, we’ve refined BoaviztAPI’s methodology, modeled cloud service impacts, developed visualization tools, and explored AI’s environmental footprint, all through collaborative, hands-on contributions. Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

  • Boavizta Hackathon #12
    • 26 june 2026 | Numberly, Paris | Hybrid

    • Presenting e-footprint to around a dozen people and exploring AI to facilitate the tool's installation, expanding the IRO database (nearly 50 actions covering over 30 digital risks and impacts), fixing a security vulnerability and adding Azure V6 instance data to BoaviztAPI, UX testing for the EROOM interface, and integrating new public data into BoAmps.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #11
    • 8 April 2026 | Sopra Steria, Paris | Hybrid

    • AI environmental impact updates, community awareness sessions, BoAmps feature identification and roadmap contribution, data enrichment for training/inference energy consumption, and strong in-person participation with new contributors.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #10
    • 3 October 2025 | Publicis Sapient France, Paris | Hybrid

    • e-footprint beta testing and backlog prioritization for V1, AI impact modeling exploration with Ecologits.ai, EROOM V1 finalization, and creation of a dedicated section on Boavizta’s website.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #9
    • 15 November 2024 | WeScale, Paris | Hybrid

    • Energizta refactoring and maintenance, BoAmps data model for standardizing AI energy consumption reporting, BoaviztAPI electricity impact factors update, Storage as a Service evaluation, and publication of an article on AI growth and environmental impact.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #8
    • 24 May 2024 | Orange Gardens, Châtillon | Hybrid

    • Implementation of BoaviztAPI platform layer, API data format work, serverless architecture reflection, ML environmental impact reporting, simplified e-Footprint application impact estimation, CSRD digital impact analysis, and Microsoft/SBTi trajectory analysis.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #7
    • 19 January 2023 | Numberly, Paris | Hybrid

    • Web application impact assessment, methodological workshop for web app evaluation, ChatGPT impact evaluation, first GPU impact modeling in BoaviztAPI, GPU consumption profiling, infrastructure layer addition, Storage as a Service, automation for new cloud providers, and integration of Electricity Map data.

  • Boavizta Hackathon #6
    • 14 October 2022 | OVHcloud, Paris | Hybrid

    • Modeling environmental impacts of cloud services, development of Datavizta (server impact visualization tool), automation of manufacturer impact data collection (Spider & Parser), and creation of Energizta (collaborative energy consumption profiling tool).

  • Boavizta Hackathon #5
    • 20 May 2022 | Paris | Hybrid

    • Methodological contributions to BoaviztAPI, hardware data collection improvements, bug fixes in Boagent, CPU/RAM consumption profiling, contributions to Cloud Scanner and cloud-bill, Dataviz tools for BoaviztAPI, and exploration of API integration with Power BI and Excel.
